Why You Must Show Your Work as a Photographer

Here’s a 4-minute video that discusses why it’s important to show your work as a photographer and put it out there for the world to see rather than wait until it’s “perfect” before presenting your art.

“If you somehow think it’s virtuous to hide in your basement and make your art until it gets all nice and perfect before you put it out, let me tell you why that is absolutely wrong,” says photographer Chase Jarvis. This video is an episode in his show Chase Jarvis RAW.

Jarvis brings in artist and author Austin Kleon, the guy behind the book Show Your Work!: 10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered. Kleon’s advice comes in three main points:

#1. Becoming a documentarian of what you do has intrinsic value (0m38s)

#2. Showing your work serves as self promotion (1m43s)

#3. Sharing your work can create a community around it (2m20s)
