Testing the Pentax K-1… With Mud and a Shower

Pentax’s first ever full frame DSLR, the Pentax K, is designed to be rugged and built like a tank. To test how much the camera can handle, one guy decided to give it a mud bath and water shower.

In the 1.5-minute video above, we see Studient Richard smear mud all over the outside of the camera, and then clean the mud off by putting the camera under a faucet.

The camera, which has 87 sealing points for weather/dust/cold-proofing, emerged relatively clean and still fully operational.

Needless to say, even though your camera may be able to handle it, this probably isn’t a test you should do at home.

This isn’t the first time a Pentax photographer has conducted an extreme test to show how weatherproof the cameras are. Back in 2012, U.S. Army soldier Alex Jansen heaped piles of sand on his Pentax DSLRs in Afghanistan and then used a shower to clean the camera.
