Paul C. Buff has announced the new DigiBees strobes, a line of powerful, digitally-controlled, self-contained studio flash units. They’re the digital counterpart to the company’s popular AlienBees flashes.
“America’s favorite flash units are back – now brighter and packed with even more features!,” writes the company on its website. “The DigiBees offer speed, accuracy, and consistency in our most compact design, increasing versatility with the addition of a high intensity LED modeling lamp.”
The new DigiBees are available in two output models and in four different matte colors: black, blue, red, and green. Power can be adjusted in 1/10 increments from full power to 1/64 power. An internal fan keeps the units cool during heavy-duty use, which the rugged, high-impact polycarbonate housings are designed for.
Both models have a rear LCD display that puts digital controls at your fingertips. The interface includes recycle indication (optional visual and/or audible), slave eye on/off, four modeling modes (on full, off, flashpower tracking, and independent adjustment), flashpower output, modeling lamp output, and parameter status for adjustment categories.
There’s also a high-powered 400W-equivalent, daylight-balanced LED modeling lamp in both models that allow you to preview light output as well as utilize a bright and consistent light source for photography or video purposes.
The DigiBee DB400 features 7 f-stop power variability ranging from 2.5 Ws to 160 Ws. It has a 0.5 recycle time to full power, and weighs 2.5 pounds.
If you need more power, the DigiBee DB800 has a 7 f-stop range of 5 Ws to 320 Ws, a 1 second recycle time, and a total weight of 2.9 pounds.
Both DigiBees are fully compatible with the company’s entire line of modifiers and accessories.
DigiBees will begin shipping the week of July 25, 2016, but orders can be placed today on the Paul C. Buff website. The DB400 costs $310 and the DB800 costs $350.
