Camera companies were overshadowed yesterday by Nikon’s major announcements (i.e. the D5, D500, and new action camera), but there was other gear unveiled as well.
Panasonic announced two new serious compact cameras and a new Leica 100-400mm lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60
The new Lumix DMC-ZS60 is a compact camera that’s geared toward travelers: it has 4K video recording and a 30x zoom lens (24-720mm equiv.). It’s also small and lightweight (11oz).
Inside the camera is an 18MP CMOS sensor that measures 1/2.3 inches. Other features include 8MP still extraction from 4K video, the company’s new Post Focus feature, a 3-inch 1040k-dot touchscreen, manual controls, a dedicated Control Ring, a 0.2-inch 1,166k-dot electronic viewfinder, 5-axis optical image stabilization, contrast-detect AF, 10fps burst mode, face/eye tracking AF, and wireless control using Panasonic’s Image App.
The DMC-ZS60 will be available starting in mid-March 2016 in silver and black for $450.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100
The new ZS100 is a tier above the ZS60. It packs a larger 1-inch 20.1-megapixel sensor and also offers 4K video recording. On the front of the camera is a 10x (25mm-250mm equiv.) f/2.8-5.9 Leica DC lens.
Other features include Post-Focus, 4K Photo, 0.1s Light Speed Auto Focus, a 1,166K-dot electronic viewfinder, physical rings and dials for manual settings, Wi-Fi and QR code connectivity, a 3-inch 1,040k-dot touchscreen, 5-axis optical image stabilization, 10fps burst mode, face/eye tracking AF, in-camera RAW development, wide panorama, and wireless control via Panasonic’s app.
The ZS100 will be available at the end of March 2016 in silver and black for $700.
The Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4.0-6.3 ASPH
Panasonic also announced a new Leica 100-400mm f/4.0-6.3 lens for Micro Four Thirds system cameras. It offers the longest focal length available for MFT, has the 35mm-equivalent range of 200-800mm, and features a durable and lightweight body.
Features include 20 elements in 13 groups, Power optical image stabilization, a 9-blade aperture, a gapless build that keeps dust and rain out, a tripod mount that keeps controls fixed at your fingertips as you turn the lens, an integrated hide-away hood, a 240fps AF motor, and zoom ring lock.
The new Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4.0-6.3 ASPH will be available in April 2016 with a price tag of $1,800.
