Olympus has announced a new durable compact camera in its Tough lineup and a new 300mm f/4 super telephoto that boasts the “highest resolution ever.”
The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-870
The new TG-870 continues the traditions of ruggedness established in Olympus’ Tough camera line. It’s a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor camera that’s waterproof to 50ft (15m), freezeproof to 114°F (-10°C), shockproof from 7 feet (2.1m), crushproof to 220 pounds (100kgf), and dustproof.
On the front of the camera is a 21-105mm (35mm equiv.) f/3.5-5.7 zoom lens — the widest lens among rugged compact cameras. It’s “perfect for ultra-wide group selfie shots,” Olympus says.
Other features in the camera include a 180-degree 920K-dot tilting LCD screen, a customizable front button, 1080/60p video, Wi-Fi, GPS, 13 Art Filters, slow-mo video, Time Lapse, and Nightscape mode.
The TG-870 will be available in April 2016 for $280.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm f/4 IS Pro
The new Olympus M.ZUIKO Digital ED 300mm f4.0 IS PRO lens is a durable lens that delivers outstanding image quality. On the outside, the construction is compact, dustproof, freezeproof, and splashproof. It measures 8.9 inches long (227mm) and weighs 2.8 pounds (1,270g) — about 1/3 the size and weight of equivalent 600mm lenses on DSLRs.
On the inside, there’s built-in image stabilization that plays nice with Olympus’ in-body stabilization to deliver up to 6 stops of compensation. The lens elements at the core help deliver “Olympus’ highest-ever resolution,” the company says. There’s also a new lens coat called ZERO Coating Nano that helps to reduce ghosting and flaring.
Other specs and features include a max magnification of 0.48x (35mm equiv.), a minimum focusing distance of 46 inches (1.15m), and a Manual Focus Clutch for switching to manual focus by pulling the focusing ring towards the camera.
The new M.ZUIKO 300mm f/4 is available now for $2,500.
