Distopian Sci-Fi Film is the World’s First Shot Entirely with Autonomous Drones

In the Robot Skies, a “drone love story” that takes place in the midst of a drone-policed London distopia, has a very appropriate claim to fame. The narrative fiction film is the world’s first to be captured entirely by autonomous, pre-programmed drones.

Directed by speculative architect Liam Young, the film was created in collaboration with the Embedded and Artificially intelligent Vision Lab in Belgium, who provided “specially developed camera drones, each programmed with their own cinematic rules and behaviours.”

These were the “camera men” capturing the action for the admittedly meta film, which will debut at the London Film Festival on October 8th. If you’re not too terrified by the prophetic nature of the subject matter, you can check out the trailer for yourself at the top.
