Leica today introduced three next generation updates of classic lenses for its M series linup. There’s a new Leica Elmarit-M 28 mm f/2.8 ASPH, Leica Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH, and Leica M Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH.
The German-made lenses feature improved construction and optical designs. There’s a new metal lens cap, metal rectangular lens hood, a thread mount, and a threaded protection ring on the front of the lenses.
The Elmarit-M 28 mm f/2.8 ASPH has the distinction of being the most compact Leica M lens, making it useful for street photographers and photojournalists. Compared to its predecessor, this lens has better resolution and is “practically distortion free,” Leica says.
The Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH is a fast lens that is useful for low-light situations. It features “soft and smooth bokeh” and improved image quality across the frame.
Finally, the Summicron-M 35 mm f/2 ASPH is a fast lens with an 11-blade aperture for “unique bokeh” with “an extremely smooth look and feel.”
The 28mm f/2 and 28mm f/2.8 will be available at the end of January 2016 with price tags of $3,995 and $2,195, respectively. The 35mm f/2 will be available in February 2016 for $2,795.
