Fujifilm has announced its new XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens, a telephoto zoom lens that was seen on the company’s road map last year.
The new lens, a 152-609mm equivalent on a 35mm sensor, has 21 elements in 14 groups and 5 extra-low dispersion elements and 1 super extra low dispersion element. Those special elements help combat chromatic aberration, and helps the lens deliver “the highest image quality in its class,” Fujifilm says.
Designed for handheld shooting, the 3.03-pound (1.375 kg) lens features 5-stop image stabilization. Autofocus is aided by twin linear motors inside, giving the lens snappy performance for high-speed subjects.
Build-wise, the lens is rugged: 13 seals at 12 points protect it from water and dust, and the it can operate in temperatures down to 14°F. The front element also has a fluorine coating that helps keep off water and dirt.
You’ll be able to purchase a Fujinon XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lens starting in February 2016 for $1,900.
