Walk the Deadly Streets of Manila with the Man Documenting the Carnage

There’s hopelessness in Dondi Tawatao’s eyes. The photographer, once a feature photographer in Manila, now spends his nights photographing corpses—documenting the victims of Filipino President Rodrigo Duerte’s ruthless drug war.

In this short episode of VICE News Tonight, we join Tawatao as he goes from crime scene to crime scene, taking striking photographs of shocking killings. From police shootout victims to vigilante executions, Tawatao has seen it all. And though he occasionally takes a break from the carnage to document the families left behind and tell their stories, it’s clear this daily dose of death has left Tawatao feeling hopeless, resigned to this fate.

“I’m nowhere near finished,” he says at the end of the episode. “This could go on forever… you know?”
