National Geographic today announced the winners of its 2015 International Photography Contest for Kids. A total of 17,530 entries were submitted from young photographers from around the world (between the ages of 6 and 14). There was also simultaneously a US-only contest.
Here are the winning photos from both competitions:
Grand Prize (Int): Senne Mensink, 13, The Netherlands
This was also the 1st place winner for the “Amazing Animals” category.
Grand Prize (US): Logan Wagner, 12, Cornelius, North Carolina
This was also the 1st place winner for the “Dare to Explore” category.
1st Place (US) for Amazing Animals: Kathryn Kovacic, 9, Kennesaw, Georgia
1st Place (Int) for Dare to Explore: Georgieva Todorova, 8, Bulgaria
1st Place (Int) for Weird But True: Verdier, 11, Ireland
1st Place (US) for Weird But True: Chase Rodi, 13, San Diego, California
1st Place (Int) for Wild Vacation: Henry Downing, 10, United States
3,000 photos were received for the US contest this time. The grand prize winners of both contests, along with the category winners in the US, will be featured in the May 2016 issue of National Geographic Kids magazine, which has a readership of about 4 million.
Mensink, the winner of the international contest, will be awarded a 5-day, 4-night trip to Washington D.C. and a personal tour of the National Geographic headquarters.
