Canon Unveils 2 New Compacts: The G7 X Mark II and the SX720 HS

Canon just announced two new high-end compact cameras for advanced amateurs and pros who are looking for solid image quality in a portable body. Say hello to the powerful PowerShot G7 X Mark II and the lightweight PowerShot SX720 HS.

PowerShot G7 X Mark II

The G7 X Mark II has a 1-inch 20.1 megapixel CMOS sensor at its core. It’s also the first Canon camera to feature the company’s new DIGIC 7 image processor, which helps reduce noise in low-light situations.

On the front of the camera is a 4.2x (24-100mm equiv.) f/1.8-2.8 lens with image stabilization and a 9-blade aperture. Turn the camera around and you’ll find a 3-inch 1.04-million-dot LCD touchscreen that can tilt 180° up and 45° down.

Other features include 1080p video recording, built-in Wi-Fi and NFC, in-camera RAW conversion, and Time-Lapse movie mode.

The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II will be available in May 2016 for $700.

PowerShot SX720 HS

The SX720HS features a 20.3MP 1/2.3-inch sensor and DIGIC 6. On the front of the camera is a new 40x optical zoom lens that offers a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 24-960mm and image stabilization.

Other features include Wi-Fi and NFC, 1080p/60fps video recording, a 3-inch LCD screen, Zoom Framing Assist, and Story Highlight (which turns photos and videos into a mini highlight reel).

The Canon PowerShot SX720 HS will start shipping in March 2016 for $380.
