Earlier this week, National Geographic announced this year’s winners of its prestigious photo contest. After receiving 13,000 entries, the three judges — photo editor Jessie Wender and photographers David Guttenfelder and Anand Varma — had to come to an agreement on a single grand prize winner and the winner of the three categories (people, places, and nature).
