Teaser Video Shows Skylum Luminar’s Lightroom-esque Update

Skylum Software has been teasing a digital asset management (DAM) update for its Luminar photo editing software that would bring it more in line with the capabilities of Adobe Lightroom, and the company shared this new 41-second teaser video to offer a glimpse of the software’s speed.

“Here’s a quick speed test of the new Luminar with the support of image browsing,” the company writes.

Initial feedback on the YouTube video has been negative, with people calling the teaser “underwhelming.”

“So, is this the promised dam you have announced more than one year ago? You must be kidding,” writes one commenter. “It is just a simple browser like Adobe Bridge to browse the photos in a folder. You had promised a DAM that would use Lightroom catalogs directly.”

“Wow. That’s underwhelming,” writes another. “I hold out hope that’s just a tease but I’m guessing it might be vaporware. Fancy thumbnails? Let us make the art, you give us the tools. Tagging, organization, quick adjustments, import/export, consolidation, versioning, etc.”

“Slow, ugly and quite honestly underwhelming on every level,” says a third.

Do keep in mind, however, that this teaser is meant to only show a facet of what the software can do. About a year ago, Skylum shared a different teaser with a much broader preview of what the DAM will offer:

The DAM update for Luminar will be released later in 2018 for both Mac and PC, and existing Luminar 2018 owners will receive it for free.
