The Nikon faithful have two new lenses to drool over this morning: an all-new ultra-wide PC 19mm f/4E Tilt-Shift that features some fancy engineering, and a redesigned 70-200mm f/2.8E with better stabilization, a new optical design, and an electromagnetic diaphragm.
PC Nikkor 19mm f/4E ED Tilt-Shift Lens
The PC 19mm f/4E ED Tilt-Shift is Nikon’s widest perspective control (PC) lens yet, boasting a 97° field of view. What’s more, this impressive piece of glass lets you adjust tilt and shift independently from each other—no more constant locking and unlocking to make minor adjustments.
Inside, the lens features three ED and two aspherical elements to fight distortion, chromatic aberration, and coma, while Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat and fluorine coatings take care of glare, dirt, water spots, and smudges.
Here’s a closer look:
The PC 19mm f/4 should appeal to architecture and interior photographers in particular, although landscapers in search of an ultra-sharp lens would do well to consider it. You can pick one up starting in November for $3,400.
Pre-orders are already live on B&H Photo.
AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR
Less flashy than the new tilt-shift lens, the updated 70-200mm f/2.8E is worth getting excited about all the same. Nikon calls this “the ultimate workhorse lens for professional photographers” and the updated version aims to make it more tempting than ever.
The new optical formula boasts a whopping 22 lens elements, including 6 ED elements, one Fluorite element, a high refractive element, and Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat. Nikon claims the new optics are “optimized for high-speed shooting.” Adding to that high-speed prowess is improved VR that brings the lens’ stabilization up to 4 stops (from 3.5) and an electromagnetic diaphragm for consistent auto-exposure in burst mode.
Here’s a closer look:
Given the large zoom lens and constant f/2.8 aperture, there’s not much you can’t do with this and the 24-70 in your camera bag.
The new 70-200mm workhorse is also scheduled to ship in November, but it won’t cost you an arm and a leg… just the leg. You can pick one up next month for $2,800, or pre-order it right now on B&H Photo.
