Zeiss Unveils Three New Lenses: 15mm f/2.8, 18mm f/2.8, and 135mm f/2

ZEISS Milvus focal lengths

Well… that was quick. Just two days after pictures of three new Zeiss lenses leaked online, the company has officially unveiled the new members of the Zeiss Milvus line: the 15mm f/2.8, 18mm f/2.8, and 135mm f/2.

The Zeiss Milvus line, now 9 manual focus prime lenses strong, is built with high resolution DSLRs in mind.

“The ZEISS Milvus lenses have been designed in particular to fulfill the requirements of today’s powerful digital cameras and those of the future thanks to their high imaging performance, even in difficult lighting situations,” says Zeiss Camera Lenses product manager Christophe Casenave. “[It is] an invaluable investment for the future due to its excellent imaging quality and its large range, which now covers 15 to 135 millimeters.”

Like the previous 6, all three of the new lenses boast what Zeiss calls “harmonious” bokeh, a floating element design to compensate for errors at different distances, and powerful flare control thanks to their T* anti-reflective coating.

The new super-wide angle 15mm f/2.8 lens offers a 110 degree field of view and “minimal” distortion to capture extreme perspectives. The 18mm f/2.8 features “a newly calculated ZEISS Distagon optical design” that allows it to stay very compact; Zeiss calls this one “the ideal companion for landscape and architectural photography.” Finally, the 135mm f/2 extends the reach of the Milvus line, and is being hailed as a “perfect lens for portrait photography from a medium distance” thanks to its pleasing bokeh and fast aperture.

All three lenses will be available at the end of October. The 15mm f/2.8 will retail for $2,700, the 18mm f/2.8 will go for $2,300, and the 135mm f/2 can be yours for $2,200—and yes, they are all already available for pre-order from B&H Photo.
