Back in July, we reported the rumor that Canon would soon debut their own lenses with digital displays, following in Zeiss’ footsteps with the Batis line. Today, we may be getting our first look at what those displays may look like and show.
The images below come from a Canon patent unearthed by Digicame-info, and they show some of the information Canon is considering putting into a digital display on a lens. It look like hyperfocal distance, aperture, and even image stabilization information are all fair game:
According to previous reports, the first lens to get this new display technology will be the Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS II, so it makes sense lens shake info would show up on the display. Beyond that, the information is similar to what the Batis lenses display: distance and DOF.
All indications so far have the new 70-300mm Canon lens complete with digital display launching before Photokina, so expect this rumor to become reality sometime within the next 2 weeks.
