Shady drone pilots take note: the eagles are coming for you. Dutch police began training eagles to take down illegal drones at the beginning of 2016. Now, eight months later, it’s time to demonstrate how well these trained eagles do their job.
In a demonstration that was supposed to simulate a real-life scenario (but comes off more like a comical dramatization for a late night television show), a Dutch policeman lets his raptor go take down an illegal drone caught spying on a high-security meeting between some politicians. The whole thing was filmed from the ground and from the drone itself.
This is what your last moments look like when you’re a DJI Phantom flying illegally in the Netherlands:
The program started with just one bird, but it’s proved so popular the Dutch have purchased and begun training more raptors from the US. It’s the first program of its kind in the world.
