Yongnuo Has 40mm f/2.8 and 100mm f/2 Lenses Coming for Nikon DSLRs

If you’re a Nikon F-mount user, the Chinese lens manufacturer Yongnuo has two new lenses headed your way. The first is a small 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens, and the second is a 100mm f/2.

Nikon Rumors reports that both lenses allow for both autofocus and manual focusing.

What’s neat about these lenses is that they contain a USB port, allowing owners to update the firmware of the lens from home to keep it up to date in the areas of compatibility and performance. Sigma offers this type of thing with its USB Dock, allowing photographers to do things like fine-tune their autofocus.

On the surface of both lenses is a multilayer coating that helps reduce glare. The side of each lens features a focus distance indicator for setting distance and judging your depth of field. At the base of both lenses is a durable metal mount that uses gold-plated contacts for increased signal and corrosion resistance.

Once photos are captured with these lenses, details about the exposure (e.g. aperture setting) are correctly saved by your Nikon DSLR to the photo’s EXIF data.

Yongnuo YN 40mm f/2.8N

The Yongnuo 40mm f/2.8 lens is a simple product with 6 elements in 4 groups. Specs include a 6-blade aperture, a minimum focus distance of 0.3m (~1ft), a filter diameter of 58mm, and a weight of 130g (~4.6oz).

Inside the lens is an aspheric lens that helps combat various types of aberrations.

Yongnuo YN 100mm f/2N

The Yongnuo 100mm f/2 lens features 8 elements in 6 groups, a 9-bladed aperture, a minimum focus distance of 0.9m (~2.95ft), a DC motor, a filter diameter of 58mm, and a weight of 440g (~15.5oz).

Both of these lenses are “coming soon” — an exact launch date hasn’t been revealed — but you should be able to find them in the near future through B&H and Amazon. Pricing hasn’t been disclosed yet, either, but just for reference: Yongnuo’s 100mm f/2 Canon EF lens had a price tag of $170 when it was released late last year.
