Have you ever dreamed of using an off-camera flash with your smartphone? Godox wants to make it happen. The Chinese lighting brand is teasing an upcoming product called the Godox A1. It’s a “phone flash system” that’s both a flash and a transmitter.
On the lighting-side, the product will offer both a flash unit and a LED light, giving you flexibility for how you light your scene and subject. There are three built-in LED lights and a flash unit that can be triggered with the A1 away from your phone camera.
The A1 will also work as a transmitter for controlling Godox strobes that operate at 2.4GHz.
A few example photos posted by the company so far show how the product can be used. First, you can use the A1 as a more powerful flash for your smartphone to illuminate darker scenes:
You can turn on the LED lights on the unit to provide a constant light source for photos and videos:
You can trigger the flash remotely with your phone for creative off-camera lighting:
Finally, you can have the Godox A1 light a scene while also triggering a separate Godox flash for additional illumination:
More details on specs, pricing, and availability will come at a later date when the A1 is officially launched. While this product may not be for everyone, it’s definitely an example of creative innovation, something the 94-year-old Bowens was lacking.
