You can’t make this stuff up. Scrolling through Facebook last night, we ran across a screenshot of an email sent to Reddit user justinwheelon on June 4th. The couple, clearly planning ahead, asks if the photographer could add “a clause that guarantees us a refund should we ever get divorced.”
The screenshot (below) immediately spread through the photo community, inspiring others to share snarky opinions and client horror stories. The real question is whether or not this email is authentic… I mean… it HAS to be a troll right?
“My fiance and I are looking for a wedding photographer, but are having some issues with the contracts we are coming across,” writes the concerned newlywed-to-be. “We are wanting a clause that guarantees us a refund should we ever get divorced, since we would not need the photos in that situation.”
If it isn’t some sort of joke or a made-up email by OP, the Internet seems to believe this request displays a startling lack of self-awareness.
“Everyone who attends the wedding and gives a gift should get the gift back or a refund,” wrote one Reddit commenter. “Where’s that clause?”
“Can I get a refund on my meal if I get hungry later today?” asked another.
We’ve seen some pretty intense client horror stories, and wedding photography contracts have led to some troubling stories as well, but this refund request is totally unprecedented as far as we know.
So tell us: have you ever had a couple ask for a “divorce refund” clause? And if they did, is there any situation in which you would agree to add that to your contract? Let us know in the comments.
