We recently shared the story of a photographer who had hard drives containing virtually all her professional work stolen from her home shortly before Christmas. If you don’t want this type of devastating data loss to happen to you, look into the 3-2-1 strategy of backups.
In the 2.5-minute video above, David Bergman of AdoramaTV teaches the basics of the strategy and why it’s a minimum essential for photographers. You should have at least 3 copies of each photo on 2 separate devices, with 1 copy kept off-site.
No backup strategy is 100% foolproof, but following the 3-2-1 rule can help you get the risk of career-altering data loss as close to 0 as possible.
P.S. For a more in-depth read on this subject, check out the article “Building a Comprehensive Photo Storage and Backup System” by photographer Scott Davenport that we published back in August 2016.
