Canon USA has launched a new line of printers called the PIXMA G-Series MegaTank. It’s the first line of PIXMA inkjet printers that use built-in refillable tanks rather than cartridges.
The new lineup currently has 4 different models that differ slightly in size and specs: the G1200, G2200, G3200, and G4200. Each of the 4 all-in-one printers is designed to be a “low-maintenance printer with enhanced connectivity and convenient, high-quality printing.”
On the front of each printer, you’ll find refillable ink tanks that show you how much ink is left with a quick glance. To refill each tank, you pour ink into a hole in the top using Canon’s ink bottles, which have spill-resistant tops.
Canon says that compared to traditional ink cartridges, this new ink tank system is both cheaper and more efficient. Setting up the ink system takes approximately 6 minutes.
The black ink tank can provide up to 6,000 pages per bottle, and the color ink can do up to 7,000 pages.
In addition to documents, the Pixma G-Series MegaTank printers can print borderless photos at a rapid speed with a max color resolution of 4800×1200 dpi. They can push out up to 8.8 photos per minute in black and white and 5 images per minute in color. A borderless 4×6 print can be completed in about 60 seconds.
Here’s a quick video introduction to the new printer lineup:
The G1200, G2200, G3200, and G4200 cost $250, $270, $300, and $400, respectively, and are available through retailers now.
