Canon’s got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell focal length. A new patent from the Japanese camera giant has surfaced that shows the formula for a monster of an EF lens: a 1000mm f/5.6 IS DO.
The patent was spotted by Canon Rumors on Egami, and CR is speculating that this will be the next step up from Canon’s $13,000 SuperTelephoto EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM… because if 800mm is good, 1000mm is better, right?
Canon already got our salivary glands working a couple of weeks ago when we spotted a patent for a ridiculous EF 28-560mm f/2.8-5.6, but while that lens might fall closer to fantasy than reality, the 1000mm f/5.6 is very much a possibility—a very expensive possibility.
