Sigma today announced a new groundbreaking 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art APS-C lens, the first telephoto zoom lens with a constant f/1.8 aperture. The company also unveiled a 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary mirrorless lens, the first affordable f/1.4 for that segment.
Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art
The new Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art is the 35mm equivalent of a 75-150mm mid-range zoom lens when mounted on an APS-C camera, covering the popular focal lengths of 85mm, 105mm, and 135mm in a single body. In addition to providing a constant f/1.8 aperture, the lens also maintains its focus as it’s being zoomed, a great feature for videographers.
The lens also has a “highly durable polycarbonate diaphragm made with fluorine,” Sigma says, and the “blades feature carbon feather film offering exceptionally smooth operation even during continuous shooting.”
A new Hyper Sonic Motor inside the lens is designed to be 30% slimmer while still providing fast and accurate autofocusing.
Other features and specs include a durable polycarbonate diaphragm made of fluorine, inner focusing and zoom, a tripod socket, 21 elements in 15 groups, an 82mm thread size, a minimum focusing distance of 37.4in (~0.95m), a length of 6.7in (~17cm), and a weight of 52.6oz (~1.49kg).
The Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 Art will be available in Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts. It’ll start shipping in April 2016 with a price tag of $1,099.
