Sigma has announced five new lenses for its Global Vision lineup. There are four new full frame lenses (including two Art lenses) and an APS-C lens.
“From wide-angle to hyper-telephoto, the new Sigma Global Vision introductions arrive as some of the most anticipated lenses in the industry, further facilitating artistic expression for photographers,” Sigma says.
Here’s a rundown of the new lenses and their descriptions by Sigma:
Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art
The Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art features “thoroughly corrected” magnification chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare and “completely minimized” distortion thanks to its optical design,” Sigma says.
Features include water/oil-repellent coating on the front element, a dust/splash-proof body, and high-speed AF with the Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM).
It’ll be available in Nikon F, Canon EF, and Sony E mounts.
Sigma 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art
Sigma says the new 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art is its “first lens developed originally to live up to the sought-after angle of view and performance standard for a benchmark cine lens.”
The internal lens design corrects axial chromatic aberration and magnification chromatic aberration. The lens “excels” at available light photography and has “exceptional” sharpness when shooting wide open, Sigma says.
Features of the lens include <1% distortion, "near non-existent" sagittal coma flare," 8K-compatible resolution, and beautiful bokeh.
The lens will be available for Sigma, Nikon, Canon and Sony E mount cameras.
Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary
The Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is a crop-sensor lens for Micro Four Thirds and Sony E-mount cameras.
The lens is light and compact with beautiful bokeh and a bright f/1.4 aperture.
Features of the lens include smooth and quiet autofocus (ideal for video) and compatibility with Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF.
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports
Sigma calls the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports “one of the most anticipated lenses from the Sigma Global Vision line.” It’s a new flagship large-aperture telephoto zoom lens designed for professional full-frame photographers.
The lightweight lens features a durable magnesium body that’s dust/splash-proof. The front element features water/oil-repellent coating.
Features of the lens include Intelligent OS with an acceleration sensor (and a new algorithm for panning in all directions), a 10-element design, smooth and natural bokeh for portrait photos, and various customization options using an AF Function button,
The lens will be available for Sigma, Canon, and Nikon mounts.
Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports
Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports is the world’s first 10x optical zoom telephoto lens with 600mm on the telephoto end, Sigma says.
The lens features 25 elements in 19 groups and a design that provides “maximum correction” of magnification chromatic aberration.
The zooming system allows for both smooth rotational zoom as well as straight zoom. The lens extends quite a bit when shooting on the telephoto end of the focal range:
Built-in optical stabilization provides the equivalent of 4 stops using Sigma’s latest OS algorithm.
When shooting at 200mm, the lens can also be used for telephoto macro photos with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.3.
The lens will be available in Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts.
Pricing and Availability
The Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports lens will be available for $1,999 starting in October 2018.
Pricing and availability of the other four Global Vision lenses have yet to be announced.
