Apple just announced updates to its MacBook Pro lineup with faster performance and new features geared toward pro users.
The latest 13-inch and 15-inch laptops feature 8th-generation Intel Core processors — up to 6 cores on the 15-inch (delivering 70% faster performance) and 4 cores on the 13-inch (for 2x faster performance). RAM can now be upgraded to 32GB. Storage goes up to 4TB SSD on the 15-inch and 2TB on the 13-inch.
The Retina display has been upgraded to a True Tone display, which was first introduced on the company’s iPad and iPhone. It takes ambient light color and brightness into consideration and then adjusts the display’s white point and illumination to present a consistent white in every environment. The displays also feature 500 nits of brightness and support for the P3 wide color gamut.
The 3rd-generation keyboard on the laptops has been improved with quieter typing. The MacBook Pro recent keyboards have been slammed for being problematic (even sparking a class-action lawsuit), so we’ll see whether Apple has addressed those reliability issues in this latest generation.
Other features and specs of the new MacBook Pros include Radeon Pro graphics, a large Force Touch trackpad, the Touch Bar and Touch ID, stereo speakers, and Thunderbolt 3 (for data transfer, charging, external displays, and external GPUs).
The new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros are available today through Apple’s website and authorized retailers with starting price tags of $1,800 and $2,400.
