Dell’s Retina-Busting ‘World’s First’ 8K Monitor is Officially On Sale for $5,000

8K has arrived. Dell’s “world’s first” 8K monitor that wowed so many people back in January when it was announced is officially on sale—a 31.5-inch monster of a monitor that offers a level of resolution you will drool (and your graphics card will groan) over.

The so-called UltraSharp UP3218K claims to offer “an unparalleled visual experience,” thanks to 7680×4320 pixels and retina display-busting 279 PPI density.

We’re talking 33.2MP worth of resolution and 100% coverage of both sRGB and AdobeRGB… in case you forgot. Here’s a comparison that pits 1080p vs 4K vs 8K:

By comparison, those troublesome 5K LG monitors Apple announced last year look meek. Is the new Dell UltraSharp UP3218K the best monitor for photographers and videographers? Probably not—resolution isn’t everything when it comes to monitor quality and photo editing—but it is the only 8K monitor you can currently get your hands on.

The product page went live a few days ago on Dell’s website, and orders are due to start shipping in mid-April. Just make sure you get the biggest, baddest graphics card you can find if you expect to take advantage of this 8K behemoth.

Oh, and make sure you have TWO DisplayPort 1.3 ports available… 8K through a single cable isn’t actually possible yet.
