Sony today announced two new additions to its full frame FE lens lineup: the 50mm f/1.8 prime lens and the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom lens.
Sony FE 50mm f/1.8
The new Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 is a lightweight and portable lens that weighs less than 7 oz (192 g).
It “delivers an outstanding blend of performance, compactness and value, making it a perfect choice for hobbyist photographers and videographers looking to experience the benefits of a wide aperture prime lens at an attainable cost,” Sony says.
Inside the lens is a new optical design that uses an aspherical element that reduces various types of lens aberration. There’s also a circular aperture for smooth, creamy bokeh. On the back of the lens is a metal mount.
The 50mm f/1.8 will be available in May 2016 for $250.
Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G OSS
The new Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens is the first Sony E-mount lens to offer a 300mm focal length, widening the applications photographers can use the system for. Though it has a powerful reach, the lens is also compact and lightweight, offering solid image quality without being a burden to a photographer’s arms and back.
Features and specs include 4 aspherical elements, 2 ED elements, Sony’s Nano AR coating, a minimum focusing distance of less than 3 feet (0.9 meters), a maximum magnification of 0.31x, excellent corner-to-corner sharpness, built-in Optical SteadyShot stabilization, speedy and silent autofocus, and resistance against dust and moisture.
The new Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 will be available in May 2016 with a price tag of $1,200.
